Job description
At connectlifevfx, we are seeking a talented Matchmove Artist to join our dynamic Visual Effects team. As a Matchmove Artist, you will play a pivotal role in the production pipeline, working at the intersection of live-action footage and CGI. Your expertise will help create immersive visual experiences that captivate audiences and elevate the storytelling in our projects.
Responsibilities:
- Tracking and Matchmoving: Utilize industry-standard software to perform accurate camera tracking and matchmoving, ensuring that CG elements interact convincingly with the live-action footage. This includes working with various types of shots, such as handheld, stationary, and dynamic camera movements.
- Collaboration and Communication: Partner with VFX supervisors, directors, and animators to understand the creative intent behind each shot. Engage in regular communication to ensure that all technical requirements are met and that the artistic vision is upheld.
- Problem-Solving: Identify and troubleshoot tracking issues as they arise, using your technical expertise to devise innovative solutions. Your ability to think critically will help maintain the integrity of shots while adhering to project timelines.
- Quality Control: Review your work rigorously to ensure the highest level of accuracy in tracking and integration. Make necessary adjustments based on feedback from supervisors and collaborators to enhance the visual appeal of each shot.
- Documentation and Asset Management: Maintain meticulous records of tracking data and associated assets. Ensure that all elements are organized and easily accessible for future use, contributing to an efficient production workflow.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay current with the latest advancements in matchmoving technology and techniques. Participate in training sessions, workshops, or industry events to further develop your skills and knowledge.
- Mentorship and Support: If you are a senior artist, you may also assist in mentoring junior artists, providing guidance and sharing your expertise to foster their growth within the team.
Requirements:
- Experience: Minimum of 2-4 years of experience as a matchmove artist or in a similar role within the visual effects industry, with a strong portfolio demonstrating your ability to create high-quality matchmoving work.
- Software Proficiency: Expertise in matchmoving software such as Boujou, PFTrack, or similar tools. Proficiency in industry-standard 3D software like Maya or Blender is a plus.
- Technical Skills: Strong understanding of camera projection, geometry creation, and 3D modeling processes. Familiarity with both standard and complex camera setups is essential.
- Artistic Sensibility: A keen eye for detail and composition, enabling you to assess and analyze footage effectively to ensure precise alignment of CG assets.
- Collaboration Skills: Excellent communication and teamwork abilities, allowing you to work effectively across departments and contribute positively to the team dynamic.
- Education: Degree or diploma in Visual Effects, Animation, Computer Graphics, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python or Mel to streamline workflows and automate processes.
- Understanding of compositing software (e.g., Nuke, Adobe After Effects) to foresee integration challenges and provide solutions.
