VFX QC (Quality Control)

"In the world of VFX, quality control is where artistry meets accuracy."

Job description

As a VFX Quality Control Specialist, your primary responsibility is to uphold the visual and technical integrity of all VFX assets. This entails a meticulous review process where each VFX shot undergoes rigorous scrutiny to confirm it meets both creative and technical project specifications. You’ll evaluate elements like color grading, compositing consistency, and adherence to the intended aesthetic, ensuring each shot seamlessly integrates with the overall visual narrative.

Responsibilities:

  • Quality Assessment: Conduct detailed quality checks on VFX shots, ensuring they meet aesthetic, technical, and continuity standards.
  • Identify and Report Issues: Identify color inconsistencies, artifacts, and technical flaws (e.g., tracking errors, edge mattes, or compositing issues) and accurately document each.
  • Collaborate with Artists: Communicate issues and provide clear feedback to VFX artists, supervisors, and production teams for timely resolution.
  • Technical Checks: Verify VFX files for format, resolution, color space, and specifications, ensuring compatibility across all production stages.
  • Render Validation: Review final renders and deliverables, identifying errors such as flickering, motion blur, or unintentional frame drops.
  • Maintain Standards Compliance: Ensure all VFX work adheres to studio, client, and industry standards in quality, color grading, and file formatting.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Visual Effects, Film Production, Digital Arts, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 2+ years of experience in a VFX QC role or similar quality assurance position within the VFX or post-production industry.
  • Strong knowledge of VFX pipelines, compositing techniques, and software such as Nuke, After Effects, or Resolve; familiarity with file formats and color spaces.
  • Exceptional eye for detail, with an ability to spot inconsistencies and technical flaws in complex VFX scenes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication to provide clear, actionable feedback.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced production environment.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with VFX pipelines, project management software (ShotGrid, FTrack), and QC tools.
  • Experience working with 4K, HDR, and high-frame-rate content.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (Python, MEL) for automated QC tools (a plus).
